The 2011 DCSki Annual Survey: The Raw Statistics
In January and February, 2011, readers were invited to participate in DCSki's 2011 Annual Survey. The survey allowed readers to weigh in on their favorite ski areas in the Mid-Atlantic. 65 readers participated in this survey. The results of the survey are now in, and broken into three sections:

Local Skiing and Snowboarding Habits
Out of 59 readers commenting on their local skiing and snowboarding habits, 0 readers (0.0%) indicated that they ski or board locally just once per season. 6 readers (10.2%) indicated that they visit local resorts a couple times per season. 20 readers (33.9%) stated that they ski or board locally once or twice a month, while 33 readers (55.9) indicated that they ski or board locally once or twice per week.
Skiing and Snowboarding Habits Outside Mid-Atlantic Region
Out of 56 readers commenting on their local skiing and snowboarding habits outside of the Mid-Atlantic region (e.g., to Europe or the West), 18 readers (32.1%) indicated that they venture outside this region once per season. 20 readers (35.7%) indicated that they visit resorts outside the Mid-Atlantic more than once per season, while 8 readers (14.3%) stated that they never venture outside the Mid-Atlantic for ski or snowboard trips.
Snow Locomotion Preference
Out of 59 readers, 53 readers (89.8%) indicated that they are primarily an alpine skier, while 5 readers (8.5%) indicated that they are primarily snowboarders. 1 readers (1.7%) said that they were primarily telemark skiers.
Current Helmet Use by DCSki Readers
Out of 59 readers commenting on their current helmet use, 44 readers (74.6%) indicated that they always wear a helmet, while 5 readers (8.5%) indicated that they sometimes wear a helmet. 10 readers (16.9%) indicated that they never wear a helmet.
Future Helmet Use by DCSki Readers
Out of 11 readers who do not currently wear a helmet,, 5 readers (45.5%) plan to start wearing a helmet in the next year or two, while 4 readers (36.4%) indicated that they will wear a helmet at some point in the future. 2 readers (18.2%) indicated that they will never wear a helmet.
Age of DCSki Readers
Out of 51 readers indicating their age on the DCSki Survey, the youngest reader was 10 years old, and the oldest reader was 70 years old. The average (arithmetic mean) age for survey respondents was 41 years old.
Years Skiing or Snowboarding
97 survey respondents indicated the number of years they have been skiing or snowboarding. Of those, 10 had been skiing for five years or less. 20 had been skiing between 10-20 years. 25 had been skiing between 20-30 years, and 30 had been skiing for over 30 years. One respondent had even been skiing for 77 years!
How Often Do They Visit DCSki?
During the winter, 44% of survey respondents indicated that they visit DCSki every day. 25% visit DCSki several times a week, while 15% visit weekly. 16% visit DCSki a couple of times per month.
During the summer, 11% of survey respondents continue to visit DCSki daily (and we appreciate that!). 13% still visit several times per week, while 16% visit once per week. 27% check in a couple of times per month, and 33% only visit a couple of times during the summer.
