Well I missed this week so any where with compRble snow is good. Might head over to bk fines stemmie is open or maybe go hiking.  Probably whitetail since the funniest run out of the three is finnaly open (limelight)

Massanutten again.  Going with my friend and her kids.  Their third season so I expect the 8yo boy to make it up Lift 6 pretty soon.  Snowmaking starting up again.  Weekend should be sweet for beginners/intermediates since it won't be really cold or rainy.

Arguably better terrain. Well at least runner runs... Can't find gun at any resort out of the three , and the nice twisty  ew England trails are great. Gota make it up and ski the ridge runner.

Composed a full report of today at Timberline, OR.  While searching for some links to spice it up, everything was lost, disappeared into the ether.  This has happened to me before.

Here's the short version,

Look at this!  Thinking of extending my stay.

Ya, that sucks about all those flat light conditions.  You should play it safe and just cancel the rest of the trip.

I goofed.  The link i sent before was for Mt. Hood at the 9600 foot level, much higher and much colder than where I am.  I began playing around with the NWS point forecast.   Here's the best estimate of what will happen here - rain and lots of it.

http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-121.71633&lat=45.34335#.VLmV-2K9KSO

I ought to know better than to do that.  Wishful thinking I guess.  Actually 7000 ft. Is the altitude of Silcox Hut, which is at the level of the highest lift that normally runs during the winter.  Once normal snow depths are reached most of the towers for the Palmer lift that goes to 8500 are buried.  Hasn't happened yet.  Its a low snow year, like CA.  It hasn't snowed or rained in Tahoe for almost a month and there is no prospect of any precip for another 10 days or more.

Yesterdays skiing was stellar and todays was good.  Its getting warmer and if its pouring tomorrow morning I'll declare victory and start home.

Due to circumstances beyond my control I ended up at 7S today. I was bracing for a crowd and there was one but not as bad as I thought. We headed over to the Gunnar 6 and lapped runs there until it got crowded then we began to lift hop back to the front. The Giant Steps triple was ski right on so we did a few there than onto North Face Quad which also was sparse. I'm glad they put that 6 pack on the far end of the resort because the rest of the lifts were light. We did a few runs on North Face proper then headed to the front. The Tyrol triple was light traffic all day and the best snow was on Tyrol and Stowe and almost nobody skiing the open slopes. Avalanche was a little more crowd both lift and trail but still very reasonable for a holiday weekend. I never got to Goose Bumps but there were pockets of bumps on Tyrol and Stowe. The former had some dirt and rocks in the trough and the later were bullet proof. All in all a nice, sunny day.

Oh, 7S management must have listened because Giant Steps slope was open unlike last year`over this holiday. That despite the lean natural snow cover. The Spot was still under construction. The ticket price is $82 for weekend and Holiday.

OK gear is loaded for the trip, let the kid do some of the work waxing his own skis.  I never would have guessed that we'd be looking at temps in the high 30s low 40s tomorrow.  Will be really bummed if our coldest ski day turned out to be Thanksgiving Saturday.  Snow Miser needs to get his mojo on before the Blue Knob gathering early next month.

Just in case anyone else is at Wintergreen tomorrow we should be arriving between 10 and 10:30am hoping to hang in until about 2 or 2:30.. four hour flex tickets.  Still planning to look for wgo at the top unload area for the BR Expressway lift at 1PM unless our vectors shift somehow..

Great day at Blue Knob today.  We had a blast doing laps in that Stembogan Bowl area.  We skied every open trail at least once.  It even spit a little snow around 1 PM.  Unfortunately, I had to depart by 2 PM.  44.99 holiday lift ticket on Liftopia.

I must ask, how do they stay in business?  MLK holiday weekend - and hardly anyone there.  We skied right up to that 2 person chair all day.   Perhaps I'm conditioned to expect the madness at Snowshoe.  None the less, just a great day at BK.

We are hard to miss with all this bright ski gear!

Vince was at Liberty yesterday and today.  He said today was actually the better of the two days.  The snow softened up and skied very well.  Apparently the rainy weather in DC/Balt scared away many and crowds were very light at Liberty.  No precip up there today, just overcast.  Good skiing.

Looks like a bluebird day throughtout most of the region tomorrow.  Might be a little rain very early on the way up, but should be all gone by the time we get clicked in to ski.

Well, we did it and don't regret it.  Great day.  Enjoyed meeting WGO and his lovely family.  Got in four solid hours of bluebird skiing.

Well I went to the Nut for the first time on Sat.  Great time, great snow and moderate crowds on the blues and few on the blacks.

Went to Whitetail today, snow was soft and got a tiny bit heavy after lunch.  Crowds were heavy, but the black diamond lift had waits measured in less than 5 minutes, HS Quad was ~5 minutes, I actively chose not to look at the green lifts.  Park had a lot of features adn the moguls were great too.

I just manage my expecations on crowded days and leave happy.  Probably got 15+ runs on a four hour pass.  That constitutes a great weekend in my book.

Had a great time at Massanutten with my friend and her kids.  Perfect weather for beginners in their third season.  Had fun taking the boy up to the top for the first time.  He was more than ready after making good turns on Upper Showtime and the lower section of Upper MAKAttack (skier's left has a narrow groomed section) a few times.  The soft snow with fresh corduroy was perfect first thing Mon morning.  Mom and younger kid were skiing Geronimo starting Sunday.  Next long weekend . . . hopefully Lift 5 mid-station.

Holiday weekend round two... Who is going out to face the bitter cold Sunday?

I'll be at wisp, been a few years since I've been there so I'll enjoy the different scene.
