Who’s Open? A Detailed Look at Mid-Atlantic Ski Areas

March 17, 2008 — Spring is a mixed blessing: Mid-Atlantic resorts begin to close one by one, but the weather is nice and the rates can’t be beat, with plenty of discounts.

It’s not too late to ski; plenty of resorts plan to remain open through Easter, with a handful hanging on after that. DCSki has compiled information on the operating status of local resorts valid as of March 17, 2008. However, please contact any resort you plan to visit prior to visiting. Although some resorts are listed as “open,” they may have limited operating hours. For example, some resorts will close midweek and open again for the Easter weekend. Many resorts have scaled back their operating hours, for example by suspending the night skiing session. And while a number of resorts remain open for skiing and snowboarding, they may no longer offer snow tubing.

So, use the following table as a planning tool, but be sure to call a resort before making the drive. (You may click on any resort name to visit that resort's official web site.)

OK, there might have been one face plant that resulted in a trip to the first aid office, and that probably wasn’t fun. But the rest of the weekend was “plain stupid fun.”
